The company behind a proposal to build a floating natural gas terminal in Saanich Inlet announced plans Tuesday to work with an American company on a 75-kilometre LNG pipeline between Washington and Vancouver Island.

An image of the proposed pipeline route shows the subsea Island Gas Connector Project travelling south of Saturna, South Pender, North Pender and Salt Spring islands.

“Williams [the company that owns Northwest Pipeline] and Steelhead LNG have signed a pre-construction agreement to design and pursue regulatory approvals of a proposed natural gas pipeline to Steelhead LNG’s proposed Malahat LNG facility,” reads part of yesterday’s announcement.
